Barvala Girls High School

Others – Barvala Girls High School

The sarpanch of Barvala decided to make a school building for the girls of his village. A 1600 sq.yds. land with three Neem trees was made available for the purpose and the design, model and presentations were prepared to raise funds.

The plot was adjoining the main village road and a radio signal room at the backside.

An introvert layout was developed keeping in mind the unwanted interferences. Cross ventilation and openings at the ends of each passage provide air circulation and visual connectivity to the outside. The administrative wings, library, classrooms, arts and crafts areas are all articulated around the passage overlooking the courtyard.

The courtyard was raised around the Neem trees so that it could be used during celebrations and school functions. The branches were not to be cut, instead the floor was lowered to adapt the branches as places where one can enjoy the shade and feel the trees from near.

Although the concept was introvert the inside was designed to feel vastness, continuity, connectivity and independence thus imparting conducive learning and sharing.
