One of the largest glass manufacturing giants in India decided to set up their float glass manufacturing facility at Halol.
The clients required various ancillary structures like Guest House , Hostels for staff, Trainees, etc. near the manufacturing unit. Other structures for Security gate offices, Administrative buildings and site development were added to the scope as the project commenced.
It was necessary to make a very comfortable accommodation which can justify the substitution of hotel accommodation at Vadodara at the same time save commuting time and expense to the clients. Privacy of the foreign guests was to be ensured from the regular ground staff and service teams. The plot available for the Guest house was adjoining the wooden workshop which would be operating 24X 7.The challenge was also to ensure that the noise be nullified to the maximum possible extent.
The requirements were to accommodate 16 rooms and two rooms for the MD and CEO of the company. Regular amenities like pleasure pool, multipurpose room with facilities for home theatre, card room & library, dining area, kitchen and reception were to be provided.
The concept was to provide an introvert design for the guests to have a feeling of a different place; distinct and comfortable. With factory sheds and industrial environment to south and west of the available plot, the L shape plan with curved passages and stair created a departure from a much linear and geometrically right angled plant premises. An open space facing north east, was designed to ensure privacy to the guest. Each room was designed with either a balcony or a courtyard shared between two rooms. Small Courtyards added sky lights and indoor greenery .
The dining and the landscaped courtyard is a space which is meant for evening gatherings and discussing business informally. The circular courtyard is made accessible from the dining where one can also relax in the pleasure pool. This internal courtyard space is insulated from all direct movements of the services thru an enclosed circular service passage.
The access to the guest house premises is made in a curve and finished with concrete paver blocks with grass in-between, this reduces sound, heat and also generates a transition by compulsory speed reduction of otherwise fast moving utility vehicles. The curvaceous road encircles the guest house and the access sneaks into the more private guesthouse space with pergola above, leading to an informal entry.
The overall serene ambience greets the guests with comfort and beauty throughout the day and on starry nights without getting a feel of being within the industrial premises.
