Showroom : Odyssey Project

On tying up with odyssey,a pioneer in making machine cut stone designs of unique geometry, our clients invited us to give them a design concept to exhibit the exquisite works produced.

As clients, they invited us to visit showrooms which they found were close to their perception of the reality in which they saw their products exhibited in. Where as my belief echoed that creativity is an individual expression and imitation is precipitation of human creativity. Coming to a negotiation, I sent my technical team to Mumbai with my clients to see the projects while i was in Germany, but the time constraint made me see two possible outcomes of this opportunity, one a quick original design or another which my conscious wouldn’t permit doing.

Curtailing my visit to Germany in three days, I came back to my studio. The design was conceived as an experience rather than a solution, my intention was to celebrate the craft done on natural Indian stones by latest technology.

The project located on the highway needed a very sensitive approach towards acoustics. Hence our approach also took designing of the overall sound quality of space into consideration. Also the challenge was in designing the experience such that distance of the showroom from the city would be justified by the uniqueness it had to offer.

The idea was to play with the space and create a platform for the textures of the crafted stone to be felt, seen and be mesmerized with.

For designing the first floor, we had to design an adaptive space, to incorporate varying display requirements holding natural stone types and cladding concepts. The interior came out to be quite engaging yet very cost effective . The second floor was built to accommodate future expansion . This made it possible to keep the first floor cool saving on huge electrical consumption.

This time Nandish had higher expectations. My team and I started making various options further developing 3ds for the same. On the presentation day we were ready with the drawing in details and the 3D renders. What the drawings failed to convey, the 3Ds talked about loud and clear- the concept and the feeling the space may give.

On seeing those images, Nandish our client expressed satisfaction and the project thus started.
